. the nasdaq rose 13 points. and the s-and-p 500 gained three points. america's unemployment rate is the lowest it's been since december 2008. but there's plenty of disappointment to go with that good news in the government's july jobs report. alison kosik explains from new york. the u-s economy added 162- thousand jobs in july. most economists expected more, but it's still the 13-th month in a row with gains of at least 130-thousand jobs. still, the labor department says the economy also added fewer jobs in may and june than originally thought, bringing the average number of jobs created per month back below 200-thousand for this year. and yet, the labor department said the unemployment fell to 7.4- percent last month. that's the lowest since december 2008, one month before president obama took office. if you're wondering how we can be losing jobs and lowering the unemployment rate at the same time, it's because fewer americans are looking for work. and you have to be looking for work to count as "unemployed". the labor force participation rate, which measures the percentage of the population
